SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Leading Chinese biodiesel producer Gushan Environmental Energy Ltd has reduced the output at its Beijing plant by 30-40% due to Olympic-related restrictions, a company source said on Thursday.
"From this month, the 100,000 tonne/year biodiesel plant operates at 60-70%, and will resume to normal after the Olympics," said the company’s production department head.
"The government expected us to reduce production during the Olympics in a bid to provide a good environment for this national event."
"Sales were impacted to a certain extent due to transportation restrictions in Beijing and other co-host cities," he said.
The plant would likely undergo a turnaround this month, said a vice president of the company but declined to give further details.
Gushan, a leading producer of biodiesel and related products, is headquartered in the southern Fujian province.
The company has a total production capacity of 290,000 tonnes/year of biodiesel with several production facilities in different regions, according to the company’s website.
