LONDON (ICIS news)--Sud-Chemie has bought a 75% stake in the foundry and construction bentonite operations of IMIC for an undisclosed sum, the German specialty chemicals company said on Thursday.

The new joint venture, Sud-Chemie IMIC Italia, would produce bentonite-based adsorbents and additives for the Italian foundry and construction industries.

“It is our goal to attain the leading position in Italy that we already hold in bentonite markets in other European countries,” said Sud Chemie chairman Gunter von Au.

The company is the world’s largest manufacturer of specialty chemicals based on the clay mineral bentonite, it said.
