LONDON (ICIS news)--BorsodChem has entered a shutdown at its 90,000 tonne/year toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) plant in Kazincbarcika, Hungary, five days earlier than planned, according to a source on Thursday.
Reasons for the earlier than anticipated shutdown were not known.
Originally the plant was due for a turnaround in August, which was planned to last for approximately a month.
As September characteristically saw high demand, the company would have allocation in place for September and it would, therefore, remain firm on its intended TDI increase of €50/tonne ($77/tonne), said the source.
BorsodChem was targeting a staggered increase of €100/tonne, with the first part of the increase having taken place in July and the second due in September.
TDI is used in the manufacture of flexible polyurethane foam for use in furniture, buildings and transportation.
Other producers of TDI include Dow, Bayer, BASF/Elastogran and Lyondell.
