SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Global logistics provider Agility has bagged a service contract from United Arab Emirates-based Borouge to build the company’s logistics hub in Shanghai, China, it said.
Agility would also build Borouge’s compound manufacturing unit (CMU) in Abu Dhabi, it added in a statement on Sunday, but did not provide further information.
The company would provide logistics services to Borouge’s customers in Asia for 10 years with effect from Borouge’s operational start up date in 2010, it said.
“The Shanghai logistics hub is one of several regional hubs that will provide storage and logistical support for our operations close to our customers,” said Abdulaziz Alhajri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Polymers, the manufacturing arm of Borouge.
“It will enable us to provide a fast flexible delivery service to our customers for all of Borouge’s high value product lines,” he added.
Harald Hammer, CEO of Borouge’s marketing unit said that the facility would support the rapidly growing Chinese automotive market.
The facility had a current production capacity of 600,000 tonnes/year of polyethylene and the Borouge 2 expansion, which would be ready for start-up in 2010, would add 2m tonnes of polyolefins capacity based on a 1.5m tonne/year ethane cracker.
Borouge is a 40:60 joint venture between Borealis and Abu Dhabi National Oil Co (Adnoc).
