SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemical and Fibre Corp (FCFC) has shut down its No 3 styrene monomer (SM) unit for month-long scheduled maintenance, said a company source on Monday.

The unit producing 600,000 tonnes/year of SM was shut down towards the end of July and would be restarted around the end of August, the source added.

The company also announced tentative plans to shut down its No 3 aromatics unit - which comprises benzene, toluene and mixed xylene production - for about 40 days in mid-October.

The No 3 unit produces about 470,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 100,000 tonnes/year of isomer grade xylene, with no details available about its toluene production.
