LONDON (ICIS news)--Dow Chemical's German allyl chloride and epichlorohydrin (ECH) operations at Stade will go down for maintenance in September, a company source said on Monday.

The units, which have a capacity of 110,000 tonnes/year for allyl chloride and 115,000/tonnes/year for ECH, were expected to be down for about a month.

Dow was stock-building in preparation for the turnaround and was supplementing volumes with imports from the US to ensure that contractual obligations would be covered, the seller said.

Production of the main derivative, epoxy resin, would be unaffected by the turnaround, the source added.

Also in September, Spolchemie was due to carry out a maintenance shutdown at its ECH and epoxy resin operations in Usti Nad Labem, Czech Republic. Previous reports suggested that this outage would commence at the end of September and was due to last about 21 days.

ECH is used as a chemical intermediate together with bis-phenol A (BPA) in the manufacture of epoxy resins. These are polymers used in the manufacture of adhesives, coatings and structural parts needed by automotive, aerospace and aircraft industries. Other outlets include the construction and electronics sectors.
