LONDON (ICIS news)--An oil pipeline between the Azerbaijan capital Baku to the Georgian Black Sea port of Supsa has been closed on security concerns over the conflict with Russia, a spokesperson from shareholder BP said on Tuesday.

 

“We haven’t seen any damage so this is simply a precautionary suspension,” said BP spokesman Robert Wine.

 

The 90,000 bbl/day pipeline transports oil from the Caspian Sea for export to Europe.

 

BP said oil was still being exported from Baku through a rail link to Batumi, Georgia, and a pipeline to Novorossiisk on Russia’s Black Sea coast. The combined capacity is around 150,000 bbl/day.

 

The Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, the main oil export route from Baku, was taken out of action after an explosion in the Turkish section on 5 August. It was expected to restart within a week.
