LG Chem to restart Daesan benzene late August

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korean major LG Chem expects to restart its 260,000 tonne/year benzene recovery unit in Daesan by the end of August after shutting it down on 16 August for a scheduled catalyst change, a company source said on Monday.

There was no impact of the naphtha cracker outage over the weekend on the benzene unit, the source added.

The Daesan facility would extract 50,000 tonnes/year of solvent grade xylene following its restart, he added.

This would be in addition to the current 55,000 tonnes/year of solvent grade xylene produced at the company’s Yeosu unit.

The company also produces 220,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 100,000 tonnes/year of toluene at the Daesan facility.
