HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Tropical Storm Fay has kept its path towards the Florida peninsula, where it could make landfall within the next 24 hours, US meteorologists said on Monday.
As of 4 pm Houston time (21:00 GMT) Fay was near Key West, Florida, or about 145 miles (235km) south of Fort Myers, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Maximum sustained winds remained near 60 miles/hour, the centre said. Fay should be at or near hurricane strength as it approaches the southwestern coast of Florida on Tuesday.
Isolated tornadoes are possible over the Florida Keys and the southern and central portions of the Florida Peninsula, the centre said.
