HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Jubail Chevron Phillips has begun start-up operations at its $1.2bn (€816m) Saudi Arabia styrene facility, Chevron Phillips Chemical said on Monday.

The Al-Jubail facility will produce benzene, ethylbenzene, styrene and propylene, Chevron Phillips said.

Jubail Chevron Phillips will begin exporting styrene shipments in September, Chevron Phillips said. Production quantities will increase during the next three months until the facility reaches full capacity, it said.

The 1.2m tonne/year facility includes feed fractionation, an olefins cracker, ethylbenzene and styrene monomer process units, and associated utilities and infrastructure, Chevron Phillips said.

The existing Saudi Chevron Phillips aromatics plant was expanded as part of the project and will supply feedstock to the styrene facility, the company said.

Marketing activities for the new plant will be shared. Jubail Chevron Phillips will operate the new facilities and market the products in the Arab Gulf region, while a Chevron Phillips Chemical subsidiary will market the remaining export volumes worldwide.

Jubail Chevron Phillips Company is a joint venture equally owned by the Saudi Industrial Investment Group and Arabian Chevron Phillips Petrochemical, a subsidiary of Chevron.
