TORONTO (ICIS news)--A Schulman expects to start up in October its new Polybatch additives plant at its warehouse site in Akron, Ohio, the US plastics compound producer said on Wednesday.

Schulman’s Polybatch product line includes specialised, high-tech additives for polypropylene, film, extrusion, injection moulding and thermoforming applications, primarily in the packaging market.

"We needed a new facility in the US to build on our global success with Polybatch," said CEO Joseph Gingo.

"We intend to be a leader with this product line in the US market just as we are an established leader in Europe and Mexico."

The new plant, which received financial assistance from the city of Akronwould initially create 20 jobs, with 60 jobs to be added as production increased, Schulman said.

The company did not disclose financial terms or production volumes.

A spokesperson at Schulman's headquarters in Akron was not available for additional comment.
