Japan July PS production drops 11% year on year

TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan’s production of polystyrene (PS) in July decreased 11% compared with the same month last year, a local industry association said on Thursday.

The country produced 70,229 tonnes of PS, which was an increase of 13% from June, added the Japan Styrene Industry Association in a statement.

Exports of PS in July increased 37% year on year to 4,275 tonnes, which was up 22% on a month-on-month basis, the association said.

The country produced 259,320 tonnes of styrene monomer (SM) in July, a 20% decrease from the same month year before and a 1% increase from the previous month, according to the association.

Exports of SM in July totalled 117,514 tonnes, a 14% decrease from July 2007 and a 6% decline from June 2008, it added.
