LONDON (ICIS news)--BASF was scheduled to stop production of butyl glycol ethers and butyl acetate (butac) at its unit in Ludwigshafen, Germany, for a four-to-five-week turnaround, a company source said on Thursday.

The units were due to shut down on 22 August, one week after the routine closure at the butanols unit commenced, the source added.

Nameplate capacities of the units are 75,000 tonnes/year for both butyl glycol ether (BG) and butyl di glycol ether (BdG) and 90,000 tonnes/year for butac.

The butanol unit was scheduled to restart at the end of September.

All contractual obligations would be covered during the shutdowns, but the source said that there would be little or no opportunity to participate in the spot market.

Prices for butyl glycol ether were assessed at €1,440-1,480/tonne ($2,118-2,176/tonne) FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe) for BG, €1,350-1,380/tonne FD NWE for BdG and €1,160-1,200/tonne FD NWE for butac on Thursday 21 August, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
