SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Asia’s largest bisphenol A (BPA) spot seller Nan Ya Plastics intends to shut its 100,000 tonne/year No 3 line for a month-long turnaround at the end of August, a company source at the Taiwan producer said on Friday.

“We are not shutting our line because BPA demand is poor,” the source said in Mandarin, saying that the production line would be shut in tandem with the planned turnaround at downstream polycarbonate producer Formosa-Idemitsu Petrochemical’s (FIPC) production facility.

The month-long turnaround was planned to commence from 29 August, he said.

He added that the 90,000 tonne/year No 1 and 100,000 tonne/year No 2 lines would also be shut for approximately one week in early September for routine maintenance.

This would result in a loss of approximately 12,000-15,000 tonnes of BPA in September, although contractual customers would not be affected, due to adequate inventories at the company’s production facility, he said.
