HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Dow plans to issue a statement on Friday after reporting in a regulatory filing that the Freeport #7 olefins cracker in Texas will undergo an “extended outage” due to a cooling tower failure at the site.

“The plant was shut down and venting will be minimised during the duration of the maintenance outage,” Dow said in a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) late on Thursday.

The TCEQ filing listed the event as ending on 23 December, but it was not clear whether the site would be completely offline for the entire period.

A Dow spokesperson said the company would release a statement later in the day.

Dow’s Freeport #7 cracker has capacity for 612,000 tonnes/year. The company has another cracker at the site, Freeport #8, with capacity for 1m tonnes/year.
