HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) producer INEOS Nitriles has restarted its 160,000 tonne/year Addyston plant in Ohio after a two-week turnaround, the company said on Monday.

INEOS brought its plant down for routine maintenance while fellow producer SABIC Innovative Plastics levelled a 75% sales allocation on its ABS customers due to lack of feedstock butadiene (BD) in the market, leaving some customers scrambling for ABS.

However, other ABS customers have halted making new orders until they see a retreat in currently heightened prices. Most grades of ABS were assessed on Friday at $2,646-2,976/tonne (€1,799-2,024/tonne), compared with $2,491-2,778/tonne one year ago, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

Buyer and sellers said they expect ABS prices to peak in September and possibly fall in October, depending on whether the BD supply/demand scenario balances.
