SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Corp (FPC) will shut down its 100,000 tonne/year acrylic acid and esters plant at Kaohsiung for a catalyst change followed by scheduled maintenance, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.
The plant would be shut down from the end of August and the company expected to resume production by the end of September, the source said, adding that there would be limited availability of spot material during the shutdown.
The company would consider reducing operating rates if the current weak market conditions remained unchanged, the source said, adding that high feedstock propylene costs were eroding production margins.
Other key producers in the region include BASF-Petronas, Japan’s Nippon Shokubai, South Korea’s LG Chemicals and Japan’s Toagosei.
