HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Danish shipper AP Moller-Maersk has launched a bid worth $569m (€387m) for Swedish shipping firm Brostrom in a deal that could make Maersk the world's top product tanker firm, it said on Wednesday.

Maersk, one of the world's largest container ship operators, said it would operate a combined fleet of 138 product tankers under the Broström name and manage it from Gothenburg, Sweden.

Brostrom chairman Lars-Olof Gustavsson called Maersk's offer fair and the Danish firm "one of the best partners."

Maersk CEO Nils Andersen said in a conference call he expected no regulatory holdups from EU regulators and expected the deal to be approved by the end of November.
