SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--PetroChina subsidiary Daqing Petrochemical will delay the turnaround at its butadiene rubber (BR) plant from 18 August to early September to coincide with the shutdown of its upstream butadiene (BD) unit, a company official said on Thursday.

“The BR plant will shut down on 1 September for around 15 to 20 days,” the source said in Mandarin.

The upstream 70,000 tonne/year BD unit, which the company planned to shut down in late August, would also undergo a turnaround at the same time, added the source.

The 80,000 tonne/year BR plant, along with the BD unit, are located in Daqing city, in the northeastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang.

Meanwhile, another PetroChina subsidiary Jinzhou Petrochemical will also shut down its 30,000 tonne/year BR plant in Jinzhou city, Liaoning, on 1 September for a 38-day maintenance turnaround.

“The BR supply in northeast market will tilt tight next month due to the two turnarounds. However, many buyers will still stand sidelined amid weak downstream demand,” market players said.
