Eighth named storm forms in Atlantic

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Tropical Storm Hanna formed on Thursday in the Atlantic Ocean, the eighth named storm for the hurricane season, US meteorologists said.

As of 10:00 Houston time (15:00 GMT) Tropical Storm Hanna was 305 miles (490km) northeast of the northern Leeward islands in the Caribbean, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Hanna is moving north-northwest at about 12 miles/hour, and it is expected to move towards Florida's east coast, the centre said.

Hanna has maximum sustained winds near 40 miles/hour, the centre said. The storm could become a hurricane next week.
