NewsFlashGustav becomes a hurricane

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Gustav has become a hurricane, the National Hurricane Center said on Friday.

Gustav, which was moving toward Grand Cayman from Jamaica,  had wind speeds of nearly 75 miles/hour (120km/hour) as of 14:15 Houston time (19:15 GMT), the centre said.

Meteorologists expect Gustav to strengthen into a major hurricane - with winds of at least 111 miles/hour - before it reaches the Gulf of Mexico.
