SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Indonesia’s largest methanol producer Kaltim Methanol Industri experienced an outage at its 660,000 tonne/year plant in Bontang from 24-25 August, a company source said.

The plant was shut due to a leakage in its steam reformer unit, the source said late on Friday, adding the two days of outage resulted in production losses of 4,000 tonnes but had not impacted term shipments.

Since it had been facing recurring problems, the company was considering replacing piping in the steam reformer unit to stop the leakage in its annual maintenance shutdown in the fourth quarter, said the source.

Hence, the plant’s turnaround would take about a month, he added, though the exact timing had not been decided.

Other regional methanol producers include PT Medco Methanol Bunyu and Petronas.
