Hanna weakens to tropical storm, nears Bahamas

LONDON (ICIS news)--The fourth Atlantic hurricane of the season, Hanna, has weakened to a tropical storm as it moves towards the Bahamas, US forecasters said on Tuesday.

 

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 70 miles/hour (110km/hr), although a hurricane warning remains effect for the central Bahamas, the southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, the National Hurricane Center said.

 

Hanna was expected to move over the southeastern Bahamas overnight and into the central Bahamas by Wednesday, and could regain hurricane strength.

 

Hurricane Gustav, which struck the US Gulf coast on Monday, has weakened to a tropical depression as it drifts through inland Louisiana.
