SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China’s largest methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) maker Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes plans to shut down its 240,000 tonne/year plant in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, in November for expansion, company sources said on Wednesday.

The plant was slated for a debottlenecking that would raise its capacity to 300,000 tonnes/year, a source added.

"The plant will also be revamped during the shutdown for better energy efficiency and lower waste discharge, as required by the local environment regulations,” one of the sources said on the sidelines of the three-day PU China exhibition which opens on Wednesday.

The shutdown was likely to last for more than three weeks, a second company source said.

The producer runs another MDI plant in Yantai, Shandong province, which was recently expanded to around 180,000-200,000 tonnes/year through debottlenecking.
