TORONTO (ICIS news)--Integrated Biodiesel Industries (IBI) will invest $300,000 in a 20,000 tonne/year glycerine processing plant in Brazil, the Sao Paulo-based biodiesel and chemicals firm said on Wednesday.
IBI planned to upgrade the plant, an idled chemical facility 250km west of Sao Paulo, to process glycerine, mainly as a byproduct of biodiesel production, it said.
The plant would produce distilled glycerine for cosmetics and paints as well as glycerine carbonate, a renewable solvent, the company said.
Based on an annual production of 20,000 tonnes, the plant was expected to generate revenues of $22m next year, it added.
"We expect to be an active trader of glycerine in the international markets in addition to our biodiesel business,” said Daniel Goncalves, IBI's vice president of manufacturing.
“We will continue to develop our chemical portfolio, which already includes epoxidised soybean oil, a plasticizer.”
IBI is described as a biodiesel company with activities in Brazil and Argentina. It also makes chemicals related to biodiesel byproducts or feedstocks.
