Mitsubishi targets Kashima cracker No 2 restart

TOKYO (ICIS news)--Mitsubishi Chemical, one of Japan’s largest chemical producers, plans to restart its Kashima No 2 cracker in two weeks’ time, it said on Thursday.

Mitsubishi shut the cracker in Ibaraki prefecture, Japanon Tuesday when the firm detected a glitch in the unit’s refrigerating facility, it said.

The company was currently running detailed checks on the cracker, adding it would decide a specific time of the restart pending instructions from the authorities.

The No 2 cracker produces 476,000 tonnes/year of ethylene,

MCC’s two other crackers, the 375,000 tonne/year Kashima No 1 and the 450,000 tonne/year unit in Mizushima, Okayama prefecture, were running normally.
