SEATTLE (ICIS news) – Morocco’s Office Cherifien des Phosphates (OCP) Group is planning to increase its P2O5 (nutrient content) production capacity by 5m tonnes/year and phosphate rock mining capacity from around 20m tonnes/year to 38m tonnes/year by 2020, sources close to the operation said on Sunday.

The company is exploring funding options for the projects that may include direct foreign investment, sources said at the World Fertilizer Conference.

OCP plans to build ten new P2O5 plants in Jorf Lasfar on the Moroccan coast, each facility with the capacity of 500,000 tonnes/year, sources said.

Farther inland, at OCP’s rock mining facility in Khouribga, the company plans to expand its mining capacity from its current level of around 20-21m tonnes/year to 25m tonnes/year by 2011 and 38m tonnes/year by 2020.

By 2020, the company plans to increase its total mining capacity to 50m tonnes/year, up from its current level of 35m tonnes/year.

The 2008 World Fertilizer Conference, hosted by The Fertilizer Institute, runs through Tuesday.
