SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) shut down its 176,000 tonne/year butadiene (BD) extraction unit last week for maintenance, a company source said on Monday.

The Taiwanese major shut down the BD unit following the turnaround of its 1.2m tonne/year No 3 ethylene cracker which began on 3 September, the source added.

The maintenance of the BD unit would last for 45 days and the facility was expected to come on stream only in mid-October, said the source.

FPCC’s turnaround would help bolster the BD spot price which remained above $3,000/tonne CFR (cost and freight) NE Asia (northeast Asia) despite strong resistance from the end-users, market players said.
