BUENOS AIRES (ICIS news)--Argentina’s government should promote biofuels production in its northern provinces in order to work more closely with Brazil, an official with the Industrial Technology National Institute (INTA) said on Tuesday.

As such, the government should support private sector investments in Argentina’s biofuels industry, said INTA executive vice president Jose Luis Esperon at the Biofuels Markets Americas Congress.

“There’s no doubt Brazil and Argentina must lead the expansion of the region on regards of biofuels,” Esperon said.

According to INTA, Argentina has 32 working ethanol plants, another seven in development and other 16 announcements for future plants.

Argentina’s current biofuel production is 4.7m³/year.
