LONDON (ICIS news)--Dow Europe plans to increase the price of polycarbonate (PC) resins and PC-based compounds and blends by €175/tonne and €200/tonne respectively from 22 September, the company said on Thursday.

All the region’s producers said they intended to secure increased values to compensate for heavier raw material and energy costs incurred in previous months.

Buyers acknowledge prices rises were probable given seller unanimity and the prospect of lower import volumes from dollar-based sources.

The price of general purpose moulding grade PC was currently assessed at €2.86-3.11/kg (€2,860-3,110/tonne) FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe), with extrusion grade at €2.81-3.06/kg FD, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

Dow said the price of PC resin Calibre would increase by €175/tonne, while PC compound Emerge would rise €200/tonne, adding the larger increase was for the latter because it was an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS)/PC blend incorporating flame retardants.
