SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China’s Panjin Ethylene has delayed the restart of its 50,000 tonne/year acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) unit on an undisclosed upstream issue, said a company source on Friday.

“We have to delay the restart plan to mid-September or even later depending on the progress of [the] upstream SM plant, which is expected to restart in mid-September,” added the source.

The ABS unit, based in Liaoning city, northeast China, and shut down on 12 August due to a styrene monomer (SM) turnaround upstream, was originally slated to restart in early September.

Meanwhile, Panjin had not yet restarted its 60,000 tonne/year polystyrene (PS) unit, which had been shut down since 20 June due to tight feedstock supply, said the source without giving a date for resumption of output.

The company is a subsidiary of Liaoning Huajin Chemical.
