SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Tongsuh Petrochemical will further cut the operating rate of its 300,000 tonne/year acrylonitrile (ACN) plant in Ulsan, South Korea, to 75% and run the unit at this reduced capacity until the end of October due to poor market conditions, a company source said on Monday.

Tongsuh had been operating at a reduced rate of 85% in the past month but demand from the derivative acrylic fibre (AF) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) markets remained weak, necessitating that production be scaled down by another 10 percent.

Tongsuh operates two lines in Ulsan, a 230,000 tonnes/year line and the other, a smaller 70,000 tonnes/year unit.

It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of major Japanese ACN producer, Asahi Kasei.
