TORONTO (ICIS news)--US Biofuel Energy said on Tuesday that its two new 115m gal/year ethanol plants in Nebraska and Minnesota passed first testing, with full completion and final testing of the plants expected within 60-90 days.

To pass the performance tests, the plants had to operate at or above design capacity for seven days while meeting specified quality, efficiency and environmental standards, the company said.

The plants are located adjacent to existing Cargill grain elevators and to Union Pacific’s main rail lines.

When operating at nameplate capacity, Biofuel expected to be able to produce 230m gal/year of fuel grade ethanol and up to 720,000 tonnes/year of dried distillers’ grain annually, it said.

BioFuel had long-term contracts with Cargill to handle corn procurement and the sale of ethanol and distillers’ grain for its plants, it added.
