SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Tronox on Thursday announced a proposed $150/tonne hike for all titanium dioxide (TiO2) grades sold in the Middle East and Africa.

TiO2 prices in Asia were assessed at $2,400-2,600/tonne CFR (cost and freight) Asia last Friday, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

Barring specific contractual obligations, Tronox’s price increase will be effective 1 October in addition to all previously announced hikes for this region, the world’s third largest TiO2 maker said.

Industry players attributed the latest price increases to surging raw material and freight costs this year as TiO2 demand in Asia had been largely stable in the first nine months of this year.

The company also announced a $200/tonne hike in the Asia-Pacific region, effective 1 September, in mid-August.

Tronox has an annual TiO2 production capacity of 642,000 tonnes.
