HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Chevron Phillips Chemical said on Thursday it began the startup of its Sweeny olefins crackers in Texas, which were shut down in preparation for Hurricane Ike.
The startup process will take several days, as the units are interdependent and also rely on the operation of an adjacent refinery, the company said in a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Chevron Phillips’ combined ethylene capacity in Sweeny is 971,000 tonnes/year.
