HOUSTON (ICIS news)--ConocoPhillips was attempting to restart its Sweeny refinery in Texas, which was shut down ahead of Hurricane Ike, the company said on Thursday.
The unit has capacity of 247,000 bbl/day.
Hurricane Ike wreaked havoc in Texas during the weekend, cutting off nearly 94% of US natural gas and essentially all crude oil production in the Gulf of Mexico.
The US Department of Energy (DOE) said on Wednesday that 12 refineries in Texas and Louisiana remained off line due to the storm.
The refineries have a total operable capacity of 3m bbl/day, about 17% of US operable capacity, and represent about 1.1m bbl/day of gasoline output.
