Dow Jones gains more than 400, chems mixed

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--The Dow Jones Industrial Average sharply rebounded on Thursday, jumping 400 points amid investor sentiment that the worst of the US economic crisis had passed.

Stocks of chemical companies were mostly ahead, along with the rest of the market.

Georgia Gulf gained more than 24%, or 77 cents, to close at $3.93/share, while HB Fuller gained $2.90/share, or more than 14%, to close at $23.14.

Dow Chemical gained $1.37/share, or nearly 4%, to close at $35.82.

Shares of Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (PotashCorp) increased $3.17, or nearly 2%, to close at $163.50 despite falling corn futures on the Chicago Board of Trade.

Ashland lost $1.30/share, or more than 4%, to close at $29.26, and Air Products lost $2.73/share, or more than 3%, to lead the decliners.
