BUENOS AIRES (ICIS news)--Argentina company Link Chemical has begun the production of polyacrylamides, a source said on Thursday.

After two years of research, a team of Argentina chemical and aeronautical engineers, financed by Link Chemical, designed three plants on an industrial scale that are already producing 24 tonnes/month, according to a company executive.

“The market for polyacrylamides in Argentina is of between $80m [€56m] and $100m a year,” said Gustavo Bianchi, leader of the team that developed the technology.

“We plan to concentrate on 20% of the market share,” he added.

Until now, local industries could only import polyacrylamides at a price between $3,000-8,000/tonne.

However, Link Chemical, located in Grande, in the Buenos Aires province, is already selling the polymers to companies in Argentina, Bianchi said.

“We are also in ongoing negotiations with Brazilian companies,” said Bianchi.

Also, Link Chemical plans to begin manufacture of raw materials for polyacrilamids such as acrylic acid and acrylamid, he said.

Polyacrylamides are complex organic molecules used to clean dangerous liquid residues in industries such as the petrochemical, mining, textile, paper manufacturing, among others.
