LONDON (ICIS news)--LANXESS plans to target price rises in its leather, engineering plastics and rubber chemicals businesses due to the increased cost of transport, energy and raw materials, the German specialty chemicals company said on Tuesday.

The leather business unit will raise the prices of its leather chemicals worldwide. The hikes would be single or double digit increases according to region, LANXESS said.

The company said engineering plastics prices would be increased in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Polyamides (PA 6 and PA 66) would be at least €0.35/kg ($0.52/kg) higher, while the polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) would rise over €0.17/kg.

The company’s rubber chemicals business unit also planned prices hikes. Increases per tonne would be in the range of $150-$1,300 for vulcanisation accelerators, $100-$900 for antioxidants and $100-$2,500 for specialty chemicals.

LANXESS said all changes would be effective 1 October.

It was unclear whether customers would accept higher prices.
