SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s China Petrochemical Development Corporation (CPDC) plans to shut its 160,000 tonne/year acetic acid plant at Tasheh for a turnaround in late October, a company official said on Thursday.
“We plan to shut the plant for 45 days from 27 October for maintenance works,” the source said in Mandarin.
This would be the second time that the plant is shut this year following a one-week outage in August.

The facility currently operates at 80-90% capacity due to the prevailing weak downstream demand.
Market participants said CPDC’s plant shutdown, which coincides with Samsung BP’s turnaround at its Ulsan unit in end October, may have limited impact on the supply and demand balance in Asia due to poor market conditions in the downstream vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) and purified terephthalic acid (PTA) sectors.
