TORONTO (ICIS news)--Germany-based fragrances and flavours producer Symrise is expanding in the US with two acquisitions and plans for a research and development centre, it said on Friday.

The company acquired Intercontinental Fragrances, a  Houston-based family-run firm specialised in developing and marketing fragrances for use in candles.

It also acquired and Manheimer Fragrances, a developer of scents for candles and air fresheners based in Teterboro, New Jersey.

Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

“The synergies of these two companies will make Symrise one of the leading North American suppliers of air care fragrances,” said Klaus Stanzl, the company’s president of scent and care in North America

Symrise also said it was planning to set up a global air care centre in the US which would include research, development, production and global marketing of fragrance compositions for candles and air fresheners.

The North American market for air care products - which include air fresheners and scented candles - was worth more than $300m (€204m), equivalent to some 10% of the entire fragrance market in the US, Symrise said.
