NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--India’s State trading house MMTC Limited on Tuesday invited global bids for import of unspecified amountsof diammonium phosphate (DAP).

The company asked prospective bidders to indicate the quantities that they can offer in parcels of 20,000-40,000 tonnes plus or minius 10% for shipment during October-November.

The last date for submission of bids is 3 October, which is also the date for opening of tenders. Bidders are required to keep their offers valid for 15 days from the due date of opening.

Selected suppliers would have to ship the fertilizer to five ports - Dharamtar in Maharashtra, New Mangalore in Karnataka, Chennai or Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu and Kandla in Gujarat.

The tendering invitation has been issued keeping in view the fertilizer requirements during forthcoming winter crop sowing season that starts end-October-November.

The Agriculture Ministry has tentatively estimated DAP requirement for winter crop season at 5.21m tonnes, compared with 4.91m tonnes in the corresponding season of previous financial year 2007-2008.

Availability during the previous season was only 3.88m tonnes but sales only reached 3.65m tonnes, leading to shortages across the country.
