PRAGUE (ICIS news)--Unipetrol will commence with a planned 21-day ethylene cracker shutdown from 6 October, the Czech petrochemicals and refining group said on Wednesday.

The 560,000 tonne/year facility in Litvinov would be out of action to allow for a repair of the turbine that drives the ethylene cooling compressor, the company said.

Production of injection grade high density polyethylene (HDPE) had been affected by problems with the cracker, it added.

Unipetrol, the Czech Republic's only cracker operator, has an HDPE capacity of 320,000 tonnes/year, a 220,000 tonne/year polypropylene unit, two benzene lines with a total capacity of 245,000 tonnes/year and a 357,000 tonne/year ammonia plant.
