Bandar ImamSINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Arvand Petrochemical Co has delayed the start-up of its vinyls project at Bandar Imam, Iran, to the second quarter of 2009 mainly due to shortage of contractors, sources close to the company said on Thursday.

Arvand, a subsidiary of Iran’s National Petrochemical Co (NPC) had earlier been expected to bring the project on stream in December 2008.

The vynils complex includes a 340,000 tonne/year polyvinyl chloride (PVC) capacity, comprising 300,000 tonnes/year of suspension grade and 40,000 tonnes/year of emulsion grade PVC.

“The new capacity will help ease the tight supply of PVC in Iran and turn the country into a net exporter of PVC,” a Tehran-based trader said.

“Demand for PVC is robust from the construction, water supply and synthetic leather segments,” the trader added.

The complex would also include a vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plan and an ethylene dichloride (EDC) plant, with capacities of 340,000 tonnes/year each. A caustic soda line able to produce 635,000 tonne/year is also part of the project, a source said.
