Verbio to restart German ethanol plant on 6 Oct

TORONTO (ICIS news)--Verbio plans to restart its 100,000 tonne/year bioethanol plant in Zorbig in Germany’s Saxony-Anhalt state on 6 October as prices have stabilised and demand improved, the producer said on Thursday.

 

“In a generally declining market, the price of bioethanol has stabilised,” said Klaus-Dieter Bettien, general manager of the Zorbig site.

 

Demand was rising, partly due to an increase in bioethanol blending quotas planned for next year, he added.

 

Workers, who had been put on short-time reduced hours in September due to the temporary production stop, would resume full hours, the company said.

 

Verbio suspended production at the plant last month due to grain feedstock costs and competition from cheaper imported ethanol.

  

Verbio’s Zorbig plant went into operation in 2004, Germany’s first bioethanol production plant for use in fuels, according to the company’s website. It employs over 100 workers.
