TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan’s exports of ethylene in August decreased to 155,100 tonnes showing a decline of 9.1% year on year and 6.7% compared with July, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Friday.

Japan’s imports of ethylene in August also fell both from the previous month and the year-ago period, it added.

August imports of ethylene totalled 31,500 tonnes, a 14.9% decline from 37,000 tonnes in July and down 8.3% from 34,400 tonnes in August 2007, according to the ministry.

Meanwhile, Japanese ethylene producers including Mitsubishi Chemical have reduced production of ethylene in the past few months.

As a result, the country’s ethylene output in August dropped 4.9% year on year.
