HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Another fuel oil spill on the Mississippi River has been contained quickly, with no effect on navigation, the US Coast Guard said on Monday.

Coast Guard Lt Stephen Nutting said only 210gal (795 litres) of number 6 fuel oil were spilled in the water early on Sunday, with most of the oil remaining on the freighter Jimilta Ill.

Nutting said the spill, about 30 miles (48km) west of New Orleans near mile marker 135, was too small to affect navigation on the river.

In late July a chemical tanker and fuel oil barge collided, dumping 420,000gal of fuel oil into the river and closing it to navigation from New Orleans to the Gulf of Mexico for almost a week.
