TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan’s production of ethylene decreased 12.8% in September compared with the previous month, the local government said on Wednesday.

The country produced 528,400 tonnes of ethylene in September, down from 606,200 tonnes in August, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said.

This was a 14% decrease from the same time the year before, it added.

Two crackers were shut for turnarounds in September and August, while one cracker was undergoing a turnaround in September 2007, the ministry said.

Japan’s ethylene production in August also fell 4.9% month on month partly due to major ethylene producers cutting operating rates at their crackers, it added.
