SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Petrochemical Corp of Singapore (PCS) has further trimmed production at its two crackers on Jurong island from 75% to 70% this week due to poor economics, a company source said on Wednesday.

The producer had earlier targeted to run the units at 75% in October but decided to cut output due to weak market conditions, added the source.

PCS was also expected to adjust aromatics production in line with the cracker cuts, the source said.

The company operates two crackers, with a nameplate capacity of 475,000 tonnes/year and 615,000 tonnes/year, respectively.

It also runs two aromatics lines. The No 1 line produces about 100,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 50,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 28,000 tonnes/year of solvent grade xylene.

The No 2 unit produces 170,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 90,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 50,000 tonnes/year of solvent grade xylene.

PCS is a 50:50 joint venture of Japan-Singapore Petrochemicals Co and oil major Shell.
