HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Total is shutting down train 5 of its LaPorte polypropylene (PP) complex in Texas for maintenance, the company said on Thursday.
Total plans to replace the reactor seal on the unit, but it did not specify how long the shutdown would last, the company said in a regulatory filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The unit was previously shut down for Hurricane Ike in mid-September. In August, it was shut down to address an oil leak.
The LaPorte site, one of the largest in the world, has 9 trains with PP capacity of 2.35bn lb/year (1.07m tonnes/year), according to data from global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
A US PP participant said suppliers had adequate inventories amid soft domestic demand and an illiquid export market.
